Loren D. Israelsen - President
Mr. Israelsen has been deeply involved in the commercial and regulatory issues facing the global dietary supplement industry since 1980. He has served as vice president/general counsel to the American Herbal Products Association, co-founder and counsel to the European American Phytomedicine Coalition (EAPC), industry liaison to FDA's Expert Advisory Committee on Ephedra, industry advisor to the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), expert panel member on IFT's Functional Food Report (2005) and most recently sat as an expert panel member to the Department of Defense / RAND study on dietary supplement use among military personnel.
Mr. Israelsen has authored more than 150 articles and book chapters and has lectured in over 30 countries on dietary supplement and functional food issues. He is the recipient of the NBJ Lifetime Achievement Award, the NNFA President's Award and the B.Y. Morrison Lecture and Medal. He was honored to be included in Natural Health Magazine's 30th Anniversary Hall of Fame.
Larisa Pavlick - VP, Global Regulatory & Compliance
Larisa Pavlick joins UNPA with 20 years of combined experience working within the dietary supplement industry, plus nearly eight years as an investigator at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. She has a passion for the dietary supplements and natural products industry and for helping others. Larisa has worked in the development of botanical products, utilizing Traditional Chinese Medicine, ethnomedicinal plants and Ayurveda. Through robust scientific research and collaboration with her mentors, she has assisted in the formulation of products designed to support the negative effects of nutritional deficiencies, stress, aging and more. With a strong background, education and training in U.S. regulations and quality, she has spent much of her career evaluating the quality and integrity of ingredients and the manufacturing controls used to produce these finished products. During her career, Larisa has dedicated herself to helping ensure consumers receive the benefits of safe and ethical vitamins, minerals, botanicals and other dietary supplement products.
Larisa graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Outside of work and spending time with her family, some of her favorite activities include riding motorcycles, gardening, reading and enjoying the great outdoors, including kayaking, hiking, biking, boating and water sports and camping.

Frank J. Lampe - VP, Communications & Industry Relations
Frank Lampe is a highly respected healthy-living media veteran with nearly 30 years of communications, marketing and management experience in the natural products industry. He has been at the leading edge of—and a leading media participant in—four important healthy-living movements: the creation of national legislative and regulatory structures for the organic foods and dietary supplements industries; the integration of private and public capital into the natural products industry; the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) movement; and the integration of natural products with integrative medicine.
He has served in a number of executive positions, including with New Hope Natural Media, where as editorial director he oversaw all editorial, research and management for trade and consumer publications; as executive vice president of InnoVision Health Media, which published Natural Solutions and Alternative Medicine magazines, peer-reviewed medical journals and consumer books covering natural health; as cofounder and managing director of Natural Business Communications, which published the LOHAS Journal and produced the annual LOHAS Forum; and as founder & president of Silvercliffe Media Inc., a healthy-living media and publishing consultancy.
Most recently, he served as the director of communications for the American Herbal Products Association. Mr. Lampe was the recipient of the Industry Champion Award from the Natural Products Association in 2011.
Kira Olsen - Director, Member Services & Events
Kira Olsen serves as UNPA's Director of Member Services & Events and has been with the organization since 2006. She manages the daily functions at UNPA, including member support, new client screening, and facilities, finance and office administration. Kira is also in charge of the planning and production of all UNPA events and educational offerings. Ms. Olsen comes to UNPA with a background in advertising and marketing. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications and minored in sociology. When Kira is not working, she loves to do anything "fun, challenging and exciting," such as training for marathons and other athletic events, snowboarding, wakeboarding, scuba diving, and most of all, spending time with her husband and three beautiful children.
Heidi Calder - Executive Assistant
Heidi Calder brings 20 years of experience in the sports medicine and natural health fields. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education with an emphasis in exercise physiology. She has also served as an instructor for the Utah Heart Association and worked at the LDS Hospital Fitness Institute in Salt Lake City. Since 1987, she has been the executive assistant to UNPA President Loren Israelsen during her tenure at Nature's Way, the LDI Group, and UNPA. She is a skilled gardener and chef and the mother of three awesome boys.
Mika Israelsen - Director, Operations
Mika Israelsen serves as UNPA’s director of operations. Mika manages UNPA's daily operations along with finances and accounting. As part of her responsibilities, she maintains close relationships with UNPA’s customers and vendors, in addition to the extensive support she provides the rest of the UNPA staff and its members. She has deep experience with all aspects of office management through her previous tenures with GOED, the omega-3 trade association, and essential oil manufacturer Almarome. She studied business management at Salt Lake Community College and when not at the office, Mika enjoys cooking, gardening and hiking the Wasatch Mountains. She lives in Salt Lake City with her husband and beautiful son.
