(Mar. 16, 2017) — United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) President Loren Israelsen is a recipient of the 2017 Herbal Insight Award, presented by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) at its annual member meeting, held March 9, at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif.
Established in 2006, the annual AHPA Awards acknowledge individuals and organizations that help further AHPA's goal of promoting the responsible commerce of herbs and herbal products.
Among many other industry contributions in his long career, Israelsen was a founding member of AHPA and served as vice president and general council of the association from 1982-1987. Israelsen and Scott Bass, a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, who also received the 2017 Herbal Insight Award, were honored for their tireless work to ensure consumer access to herbal dietary supplements.
Longtime friends and colleagues Peggy Brevoort and Lynda LeMole presented Israelsen with his award. During their introduction, they stressed that all AHPA members have greatly benefited from Israelsen's work.
"Working with plants and the people who love plants has been the greatest gift," Israelsen said. "As the industry continues to evolve, it is critical that we remain engaged and continue to remind the next generation about the values that make the herbal industry so extraordinary.
“Receiving the AHPA Herbal Insight award, along with my old friend and colleague Scott Bass, is deeply touching as a recognition of my early work with AHPA and the subsequent growth and progress that makes AHPA such an important organization today,” Israelsen said of the honor.
